PLANNING: HOT SEATING
In our film 'Fractures' we feature a young girl struggling with a personality disorder, in this hot seating we set up a counselling session for her so we can develop her personality to our audience further.
We were inspired by an article written by Charlie Sierra about building the back story to film characters in which he quoted from Riding the Alligator, a book written by Pen Densham, an Academy Award nominated filmmaker.
The purpose of this is to outline a deep understanding of your characters for both the actors and director, and for motivating a character’s choices or actions. It's an effective way of exploring characters and scenes in greater depth so when we come round to filming our final piece we already know how we are going to portray our character. In our hot-seat we filmed the protagonist we were able to produce the idea of her mental health and show how temperamental 'Elsie's' is before we have even filmed our piece.
Excellent work that shows that you have undertaken and applied relevant research to character development. You have planned and constructed this 'hot seating' interview using your filming and editing knowledge and skills. The exercise clearly shows that you understand how meanings are made through directing a character's posture, gestures, voice on set.
